JAMES KERWIN

Born into a British family in 1982, James Kerwin resided in Norwich, United Kingdom, until January 2019. Over the past decade, James has passionately dedicated himself to preserving architectural treasures that have been abandoned, neglected, or deteriorated. His photographic exploration of abandoned spaces, ruins and heritage sites has taken him to remote areas across the globe.
James initiated his photographic journey in late 2013, focusing on capturing the essence of abandoned structures in his first series, "Decadence." Since then, he has expanded his portfolio to include some of the most intriguing interiors and spaces globally, with a particular focus on the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
Utilizing contemporary post-processing techniques, James enhances his images to bring out crisp lines and brilliant color palettes, ensuring that each photograph tells a compelling story. His relentless pursuit of new experiences led him to establish a photography adventure tour company in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 2019, eventually relocating to Istanbul, Türkiye, at the beginning of 2022.
James Kerwin's work has garnered recognition in numerous international competitions. In 2017, he claimed victory in both the ND Awards and the Chromatic Colour Awards in the Architecture category. His 2019 photo "Circle of Trust," captured in Beirut, Lebanon, secured a spot on the shortlist for the 2021 Architectural Photographer of the Year award in the exterior category.
The autumn of 2021 marked the debut of James's books, "Fabrica – A Journey Into Decay" and "Abandoned Lebanon," both published by Jonglez, offering a profound glimpse into his artistic exploration.

JAMES KERWIN

Tbilisi has undergone a remarkable transformation, and amidst the evolving landscape stands the 125-year-old family home at Rustaveli 54. This historic residence, once owned by the esteemed lawyer and economist Vasil Gabashvili, was architecturally crafted by Korneli Tatishchev. The house showcases a distinctive blend of baroque and rococo styles in its façade, featuring intricate wooden lacework, a picturesque balcony-adorned entrance, and a charming garden with a circular fountain. Today, the house finds itself juxtaposed against a bustling construction site, highlighting the delicate balance between preserving its historic charm and adapting to the changing urban environment.
